The thing about creativity is that it will keep you up at night. It will wake you up at offbeat hours and demand your attention. It will demand that you write down the idea on a notepad, an app on your phone, and in some instances will force you to wake up from your slumber start typing.
Like I am right now. At 4:30 am on a Sunday morning.
The thing about creativity is that it will seduce you when you least expect it. It will wine and dine you, buy you roses, and book surprise getaways to adventurous locations when you least expect it. It will do everything it can to get your attention because it thrives off the chase. But know that if it does not get the attention it requires, it will seek it elsewhere.
Sort of like a mistress.
The thing about creativity is that it will play the role of a supportive partner. It will be there for you when you’ve had a long day at work, it will bring you comfort during the uncertainty in your life and it will offer you the closure that you sought from old relationships.
Once you put a ring on it. It will stay with you to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until parted by death.
The thing about creativity is that it will be your best friend and your worst enemy. It will hype you up when you can’t seem to find the strength to continue, but it will tear you down with anxious thoughts causing you to second guess yourself. It will be your biggest cheerleader and your harshest critic.
You will develop a love/hate relationship with creativity. But you will still wake up at 4:30 am on a Sunday morning and give it the attention it deserves because you know it’s a relationship worth fighting for.
